Opening Meeting Day 2023-2024: today SCPS welcomed all staff to Washington High School to kick off the new school year! The morning program included opening remarks from Superintendent, Dr. John Gaddis, Board Chairperson, Mr. Bill McInturff and Somerset Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Tania Cunningham-Raycrow. Deputy Superintendent, Tom Davis served as the emcee and Tracie Bartemy, Director of Schools introduced the keynote speaker: veteran educator and national encourager of teachers, Mr. Gerry Brooks. Welcome back, #teamSCPS! Have a great year!

Summer School begins Monday, 6/26/23! As we prepare to welcome students back for the summer, please note that bus transportation schedules will be sent via EMAIL over the next few days to the address used to register your student in PowerSchool. Bus drivers will NOT notify parents/guardians via phone call this year. Please check your email for an automated message with your student's transportation information.

WHY YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID? Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among children and adolescents ages 6-18. Register for the next Youth Mental Health First Aid Training: Who: School Staff, Parents, and Community Members When: Tuesday, June 27th, and Wednesday, June 28th, 2023 from 1:00-3:15 PM. You must attend both sessions to complete the training. Where: Meeting will be held virtually; link will be sent to attendees How: Call 410.621.6232 or email rabbott@somerset.k12.md.us to register Registration Deadline: Monday, June 12, 2023; Register early as space is limited to 20 participants. Online pre-work is required before attending the virtual class Stipends are available to school staff with full completion of the training or eligible school staff can earn 1 CPD if Adult Mental Health First Aid is also taken. What the Youth Mental Health First Aid Training Covers: • Common signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges in this age group. • How to interact with a child or adolescent in crisis. • How to connect the youth with help. • Expanded content on trauma, substance use, self-care and the impact of social media and bullying.
