Transportation

The Somerset County Public Schools Transportation Department is responsible for the safe, efficient and timely transportation of over 85% of the students attending Somerset County Public Schools (SCPS). Free school bus transportation is provided to and from school to all pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students, regardless of distance, to all elementary school students living beyond a one-mile walking distance and to all intermediate and high school students living beyond one and one-half mile miles walking distance from their respective schools.

We operate with 28 bus contractors, 32 bus routes, and two boat contracts safely delivering students to and from ten different schools. Our annual mileage exceeds 800,000 miles, covering 320 square miles, excluding extra-curricular and field trips and summer school.

The Somerset County Public School Board Policy 200-18 outlines guidelines and eligibility for pupil transportation and Policy Implementation Procedures 200-18.1 provides additional information about how the transportation policy is administered.

Assigning students to a specific route and bus stop will address critical safety needs/ concerns for students who ride SCPS buses. This will also allow school leaders to better communicate and serve families when a delay or other changes in services are encountered.
