Deal Island Elementary celebrated American Education Week with a special family craft day! 🦃🎨

Families joined students to paint dinner plates they can keep as lasting memories. Some created adorable handprint turkeys, while others painted their favorite seasons, colors, and creative designs.

We love seeing our families learning, laughing, and creating together at DIS! 💛🍽️

Thank you to Maryland Senator Mary Beth Carozza for spending time yesterday with our 4th graders at Greenwood Elementary and Carter G. Woodson Elementary during American Education Week!

Senator Carozza visited Mrs. Bivens’ class at Greenwood and Ms. Bell’s and Ms. Evans’ classes at Woodson, sharing a mini-lesson on Maryland symbols and state history. Our students loved learning directly from one of their elected leaders!

A special shout-out to the Woodson staff for sending her off with true Somerset hospitality — a slice of Maryland's State Dessert: Smith Island Cake - fresh off the boat. 💛🍰
We appreciate Senator Carozza for taking the time to inspire our learners!

🦃📚 Happy American Education Week from Princess Anne Elementary!
Our PAES Kindergarten families had a blast building creative “Turkey Traps” with play-doh & tooth picks after reading How to Catch a Turkey by Adam Wallace.
1st graders dove into Corn by Gail Gibbons and crafted their own colorful corn using beads and pipe cleaners.
Plus — the Scholastic Book Fair is open all week, so be sure to stop by! 💛🌽

This morning, Princess Anne Elementary School welcomed some very special local veterans for a Veterans Day breakfast and story time with first grade classrooms. 💙❤️ 🤍 Students enjoyed hearing their stories and learning about the meaning of service, courage, and community.

A heartfelt thank-you to all who have served—and to our guests for sharing this meaningful morning with our students!

9th grade U.S. History students in Ms. Ford’s class at Crisfield Academy & High School are taking time this week to honor local veterans through a meaningful Veterans Day interview project.

Each student interviewed a veteran — often a parent, grandparent, family member, friend or neighbor— asking thoughtful questions about their time in service and what life was like during and after their military experience. Students then presented their interview findings in class, reflecting on what they learned and how it shaped their appreciation for those who serve.

Among the stories shared were powerful memories of an inbound Iranian missile warning, crawling under live fire in boot camp, driving supply trucks through dangerous zones, learning to swim at boot camp, jumping from helicopters into the ocean, and witnessing the hardships of war-torn countries. Many veterans also shared concerns about the care and support available to those returning home with physical or mental injuries — and the growing number of homeless veterans.

Thank you to Ms. Ford and her students for this heartfelt project and for helping our community remember and honor the courage and sacrifices of our veterans. ❤️🤍💙
