Today, Somerset County Public Schools honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. King’s vision of justice, equality, and service continues to guide our commitment to creating inclusive learning environments where every student is valued, respected, and supported.
As we reflect on his words and work, we encourage our school community to consider how service, compassion, and courage can help strengthen our schools and our society.
In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, schools are closed today. We look forward to welcoming students back tomorrow, Jan. 21, 2026.

Thank you to Maryland Senator Mary Beth Carozza for spending time yesterday with our 4th graders at Greenwood Elementary and Carter G. Woodson Elementary during American Education Week!
Senator Carozza visited Mrs. Bivens’ class at Greenwood and Ms. Bell’s and Ms. Evans’ classes at Woodson, sharing a mini-lesson on Maryland symbols and state history. Our students loved learning directly from one of their elected leaders!
A special shout-out to the Woodson staff for sending her off with true Somerset hospitality — a slice of Maryland's State Dessert: Smith Island Cake - fresh off the boat. 💛🍰
We appreciate Senator Carozza for taking the time to inspire our learners!
