
Here are our new DIS vocabulary words of the week! In an effort to improve our vocabulary usage across all grade levels, we have created these vocabulary cards for our school and families to use at home and in the classroom. We encourage you each week to try to incorporate our DIS word(s) of the week into your conversations at home. This week's words are inspired by the Disney show, "Bluey" Thank you for your continued effort in supporting our students' education!


Due to this morning's hazardous weather and road conditions as well as the scheduled early dismissal, all classes will be conducted remotely as an asynchronous virtual school day. Assigned classwork must be turned in on Monday, April 15 for the student to be counted present in school unless other arrangements are made with the teacher. All after school activities are cancelled.

Due to flooding in Somerset County, our scheduled School Readiness Fair has been postponed to a future date. More information will be sent out soon concerning another future date for this event. If you need assistance registering your child for PK or Kindergarten, please contact your child’s home school.

Guardians of 5th and 6th grade students: The Somerset County Historical Society's Time Traveler's History Camp registration is open and accepting applications. Complete and return the application no later than May 10, 2024.

On Monday, the solar eclipse is taking place. A permission slip was sent home for you to return if you DON'T want your student(s) to participate - special glasses are provided. Tutoring after school on Monday has been cancelled. Friday is an early dismissal day beginning at 12:30. Our Hit the Books/Shorebirds event and the School Readiness Fair are that evening. 3rd and 4th grade students have MCAP testing this week. We hope everyone works hard during the last week of Q3!

2nd and 3rd grade students attended the Mt. Hermon Plow Days at Adkins Farm in Salisbury. Students learned about the "old school" ways of farm life!




On April 18th at Princess Anne Elementary are hosting a wellness event open to all families!



In honor of Read Across America, the Maryland State Education Association (MSEA) donated a collection of new children's books to Deal Island Elementary School's media center! MSEA President, Cheryl Bost visited DIS today to read a few of the new books to students in PreK - 2nd grade. Thank you, Ms. Bost and MSEA for this generous donation!

Save the Date for April 17th for our Spring Picture Day! It'll be a casual day for all students regardless if photos packages are purchased. Classroom photos are being taken as well! You can purchase online at www.strawbridge.net using our DIS code FM428986. Paper forms will be sent home as well.

Due to flooding in low-lying areas of the county, and its occurrence on a scheduled early-dismissal day, schools are now CLOSED today, Wednesday 3/27/24 for students & teachers. 12 month staff should report after a 2 hour delay.


As a reminder, schools are closed Thursday, March 28 through Monday, April 1, 2024 for Spring Break. We hope that our school community has a restful and relaxing holiday! Schools will reopen on Tuesday, April 2.
