May 4 - 10, 2025
This week, Somerset County Public Schools is proud to join communities across the nation in recognizing Children’s Mental Health Matters Week. This annual observance is an important opportunity to raise awareness about the mental health needs of children and youth and to reaffirm our commitment to fostering supportive, inclusive learning environments where every student can thrive.
The theme for 2025 is “Let’s Grow Together,” a reminder that mental health is a shared journey involving families, educators, caregivers, and the broader community. When we work together to promote mental wellness, we empower students to reach their full potential—academically, socially, and emotionally.
Mental health challenges affect 1 in 5 children, and early identification and support are critical. At SCPS, we continue to support students receiving school-based mental health services, social-emotional learning, and professional development for staff so they can respond with compassion and care. Our school counselors, psychologists, and social workers play a vital role in this effort, providing essential resources and support for students and families.
Here’s how you can help this week:
Talk openly about emotions and mental health with the children in your life.
Wear green to show your support for mental health awareness.
Explore local and online resources for youth mental health.
Practice kindness and active listening—small actions can make a big difference.
Together, we can help break the stigma, build resilience, and ensure that every child knows they are not alone.
