Westover, MD – The Somerset County Board of Education (SCBOE) approved a revision to the 2026–2027 academic calendar during its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on October 20, 2026.
Due to inclement weather, Somerset County Public Schools were closed on September 25 and September 28, 2026. To meet the state’s requirement of 180 instructional days, November 23 and November 24, 2026, will now be regular school days. All schools will be open for instruction, and the Board of Education (BOE) office will operate on its regular schedule on both dates.
One make-up day is built into the middle of the school year:
January 4, 2027
Additionally, three make-up days are scheduled at the end of the school year:
June 21, 2027
June 22, 2027
June 23, 2027
These dates will be used as instructional days only if necessary to ensure Somerset County Public Schools meets the state’s 180-day instructional requirement. If extended school closures require the use of all built-in make-up days, SCPS may implement additional instructional days in coordination with employee associations and with approval from the Board of Education.
