Princess Anne, Maryland — On May 31, 2026, the Somerset County Board of Education petitioned the Circuit Court for Somerset County to determine whether the Board could release the Confidential Settlement Agreement entered into with former Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Ava Tasker-Mitchell, as part of the process surrounding the termination of her employment.
On Friday, August 21, 2026, the Circuit Court for Somerset County granted the Board’s motion and issued an Order authorizing the release of the agreement.
Counsel for the Somerset County Board of Education is currently reviewing the agreement to determine whether any portions must be redacted in accordance with the Maryland Public Information Act (MPIA).
Following completion of that legal review, the Board will release the agreement in accordance with the requirements of the Maryland Public Information Act.
