SCPS to Send Student Devices Home Friday, January 23 in Preparation for Potential Virtual School Day

January 22, 2026 (Westover, MD) - Somerset County Public Schools (SCPS) will send student instructional devices home with students on Friday, January 23, 2026, as a proactive measure due to the potential for inclement weather that could impact a safe return to in-person instruction on Monday, January 26, 2026.

Sending devices home ensures students and staff are prepared should the school system need to implement a virtual school day. Families are encouraged to closely monitor future communications from SCPS throughout the weekend as the storm approaches and conditions become clearer.

Families are reminded that school-issued devices and power cords must be returned on the next in-person school day. Please take care to keep devices safe, charged, and ready for instructional use if needed.

To help households prepare, SCPS encourages parents, guardians, and caregivers to review the SCPS Virtual Day Instruction Plan, which outlines expectations, schedules, and instructional components for a virtual learning day. Helpful resources and family guides are available at: www.somerset.k12.md.us/page/virtual-day-instruction-plan

Thank you for your continued partnership and flexibility as SCPS prioritizes student safety while maintaining continuity of learning. Additional updates will be shared through official SCPS communication channels as conditions warrant.
