Somerset County Public Schools will operate on a modified attendance schedule on Friday, December 19, 2025, due to the need to reconcile instructional and operational days across school levels resulting from flooding on October 30, 2025.
Schedule for December 19, 2025:
Elementary schools will be open, and operate on a normal schedule for all students and staff.
Intermediate and High schools will be closed for students and staff.
Earlier this fall, our region experienced flooding that exceeded official predictions, creating unsafe travel conditions in several parts of the county. Out of an abundance of caution, elementary schools remained closed, while secondary schools were able to open safely on October 30, 2025. As a result, required staff workdays across multiple bargaining units were no longer aligned with the negotiated agreements.
This adjustment on December 19 corrects the imbalance in staff workdays across elementary, intermediate, and high school levels, while creating minimal disruption to instruction during the winter season.
