at Somerset Intermediate School

Somerset Intermediate School will welcome families for its annual holiday concert on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 and this year’s event will include a unique opportunity for parent and community engagement.

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has released new Grade 6 and Grade 7 Social Studies Frameworks that school systems must implement. To support the transition, Somerset County Public Schools is reviewing three potential textbook programs aligned to the updated standards for adoption in the 2026–27 school year.

During Somerset Intermediate School's December 9 concert, SCPS will host a curriculum preview area where parents, guardians, and families can:

  • Review the new MSDE social studies frameworks for grades 6 and 7

  • Explore the three textbook candidates under consideration

  • Provide feedback to assist in the selection process

The preview area will be available at 5:30pm before the holiday concert begins at 6:00pm, and after its conclusion. SCPS encourages families to stop by, learn about the state’s updated expectations for middle school social studies, and share their input as the system prepares for next year’s curriculum rollout.
