WESTOVER, MD (April 30, 2025) - Somerset County Technical High School (SCTHS) proudly celebrated the achievements of students in its Career and Technical Education (CTE) Criminal Justice Program during the annual pinning and promotion ceremony, held earlier this month. This special event recognized the hard work, leadership, and dedication of students as they advanced in rank within the program, which offers real-world experience for those pursuing careers in law enforcement, military, emergency response, and public safety.
Superintendent Dr. Ava Tasker-Mitchell joined leaders from local law enforcement agencies and first responder departments to pin the newly promoted students. Proud family members were also in attendance to show their support and witness their students' accomplishments. Maryland State Senator Mary Beth Carozza gave an inspiring address to the students, emphasizing the importance of service, responsibility, and integrity in the field of public safety.
The CTE Criminal Justice Program is led by Major Wade Chambers, who brings decades of experience and a passion for guiding students toward excellence. “This ceremony is a reflection of the commitment these students have shown not only to their studies but also to each other and their future communities,” said Major Chambers.

The Criminal Justice Program is one of several CTE pathways offered at Somerset County Technical High School, designed to equip students with the skills, certifications, and professional preparation needed to enter the workforce or continue their education in specialized fields.
