2021-2022 School Year Update
Looking ahead to the 2021-2022 Academic Year, families may have questions regarding learning options for their students as pandemic restrictions ease in our community. As of July 1, 2021, all social distancing and masking requirements are lifted in school settings. With this in mind, SCPS is looking forward to a return to normalcy, and welcoming back the majority of our students for face-to-face instruction in the Fall of 2021.
Grades PreK-3 through 8th and Technical High School Students:
This group will attend school in-person, Monday through Friday, in the Fall of 2021. There is no virtual option, and SCPS teachers will return to focusing their attention solely on face-to-face instruction.
Grades 9 – 12:
Option 1 is attending school in-person, Monday through Friday. If you choose this option for your 9th to 12th grader, no action is necessary and your student is automatically enrolled to begin the school year in-person.
Option 2 is to apply to the Blended Virtual Program, offered by the Eastern Shore of Maryland Educational Consortium (ESMEC). This program is free to students in Somerset County if accepted, and is 100% virtual with a mix of synchronous and asynchronous instruction. The program courses are taught by non-SCPS teachers and staff, and require a reliable internet connection at home. SCPS will provide the required technology, and students will still have the opportunity to participate in school athletics and extracurriculars. The deadline to apply to the program is June 30, 2021. Visit www.easternshorevirtual.org for more information, and to apply.
