Virtual Day Instruction Plan
The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has provided guidelines to local education agencies (LEAs) for repurposing certain days as virtual school days in 2022-2023. Somerset County Public Schools Virtual Day Plan 2022-2023 was approved by MSDE and will allow SCPS to utilize asynchronous instruction during three (3) weather-related school closure days. While the plan allows for up to an additional five (5) synchronous virtual school days, inadequate internet connectivity prevents those in rural parts of the county from participating.
In anticipation of a weather-related school closure day, SCPS will send an alert to families and staff identifying the upcoming day as a virtual school day. Students will take home their assigned devices and/or materials to complete assignments that have been previously downloaded or distributed. The assignments can be completed during the school closure day at a time determined by the student and parent or guardian, and turned in when they return to school. Students will be marked "present" for the virtual school day upon submitting the asynchronous assignments. Specific questions regarding student work or attendance can be directed to your student's school administration.
