Somerset County COVID-19 Health Metrics Tracking

SCPS is closely monitoring local COVID-19 health metrics to assess the safety of in-person learning within our schools. Guidance provided by the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) and the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) relies on the county's 7-day test positivity rate and the new case rate per 100,000 individuals for decision making criteria.

In early November 2020, SCPS observed an increase in these health metrics over a two week period which exceeded the recommended benchmarks for the safety of in-person programming, resulting in the announcement of 3-week closure with a tentative reopen date of Monday, November 30, 2020. However, due to the continued rates of infection within the county, the new tentative reopen date is December 7, 2020. Per the guidance received by the state, Somerset County's 7-day test positivity rate must be 5% or lower, and new case rate per 100,000 of 15 or lower for 7 consecutive days before in-person learning may resume. Daily updates will be posted to this page using data from the Maryland Department of Health COVID-19 Dashboard.
