Director of Schools Interviewed by Comcast

SCPS Director of Schools Tracie Bartemy was interviewed by the staff at Comcast pertaining to the historical immersion camp held this summer at Teakle Mansion and surrounding areas in Princess Anne for several students. This was partially funded by the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore and made possible by Ms. Bartemy's leadership, the work of a number of educators and members of various historical groups. SADD Raises 10K for Brad's Room of Knowledge

"The last thing Brad Mason tweeted on July 29, 2013 was about helping others.

“Take a second to stop and do something nice for someone random today… it feels nice,” he wrote. The Crisfield Academy and High School chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions has been working toward raising $10,000 in Mason’s memory to name a room after him in new Somerset County Public Library." The Judy Center of Somerset County Donates iPads for use in the Princess Anne Library

Library Director Gail Sheldon accepts the donation of two iPads from Marlena Turner of the Judy Center. The Judy Center works to help ensure that young children in Somerset County enter school with the readiness skills they need to succeed in school. “Our library is an important asset to our local community and they are a great supporter of school readiness! We hope families will enjoy learning together with this fun technology”, said Karen Karten, Judy Center Coordinator.
The iPads have been loaded with all sorts of fun apps for children and parents to use together. The iPads will be available for use only inside the library. Grown-ups - please bring your library card and a valid driver’s license for in library use.

Somerset County Public Schools and Central Office Donated $38,235 to United Way

More money was donated by SCPS to the 2015 United Way Campaign than in the previous four years combined. At the present, donations amount to $38, 235. Emphasis and support by the executive leadership, goal setting by school principals and the central office staff, team work by staff and site coordinators,and student and community involvement were the reasons for this successful campaign. Participation increased by 200% at Somerset Intermediate School. Staff participation increased by 117% at Woodson Elementary School and 107% at Greenwood Elementary. The Board of Education Central Office had a 65% increase while Princess Anne Elementary had a 34% bump in staff participation. Click on the title for more information.

Local American Legion Post Donates $2,500 to Somerset County Public Schools

The Stanley Cochran American Legion Post # 16 of Crisfield presented a check for $2,500 to SCPS for projects in three schools. Crisfield Academy and High School received $1,500 for balsa wood house construction kits for a STEM activity in Technology Education. Fifteen kits have been ordered. The Legion donated $500 to the new Dad's at Work program at Woodson Elementary School, a program in which fathers and their children work on activities together at the school with emphasis on math and reading. In addition Somerset Intermediate School received $500 for PBIS activities which provide positive reinforcement for good attendance, good behavior and strong academic performance.
