FNS Department Has 100% Participation Rate in the Purchase of Christmas Gifts for Children Who Are Victims of Domestic Violence

In the attached photograph, Superintendent of Somerset County Public Schools Dr. John Gaddis is shown to the right presenting Christmas presents to Somerset County Sheriff's Deputy and Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Department Chief Engineer Lemuel White. The Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Department and the Princess Anne Police Department organized a drive to buy Christmas presents for children who are victims of domestic violence. They were distributed to a number of related agencies and hospitals. These gifts were donated by the workers and managers of the school system's Food and Nutrition Services. High School Assessments and Final Exams

This announcement is about HSA Assessments and Final Exams. The Biology HSA assessment will be administered tomorrow January 12 at each high school. The Government High School Assessment will be administered at both high schools on Friday January 13. The Social Studies final exam will be given at both high schools on Thursday and Friday January 12 and January 13. The English final exam will be administered on Friday January 13. These assessments and exams will be given tomorrow and Friday even if there is a delay on either or both days. Other forthcoming exams for next week will be announced at your schools tomorrow and Friday.

Early Childhood Event

Kofi Dennis will be providing assemblies for our early childhood students (including our Head Start and child care partners) on the 12th during the day. Mr. Dennis performs through the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts and he has agreed to stay in the county and provide us with a two our workshop that evening. Please plan on joining us for this two hour workshop. We will provide a light dinner and can provide a stipend for county Pre-K and K teachers attending. Important SAT News

There is an important announcement concerning the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Beginning May 6th, 2017, Crisfield High School will be an official SAT test site. Crisfield High School test site will be available for all future test dates. Supervisor of Student Services Wins Top Award

Veteran social worker and Somerset County Public Schools Supervisor of Student Services Tracey Cottman is well-known and respected as a strong advocate for students. Ms. Cottman recently won the prestigious School Champion Award from the Eastern Shore Mental Health Coalition. This award is given to recognize an individual who is providing "steadfast leadership and commitment in creating a school climate where all students will succeed". There was one nominee from each of the 9 counties. Ms. Cottman was chosen for this award from individuals representing the nine Eastern Shore of Maryland counties. State Comptroller Peter Franchot to Present Silver Hammer Award to Deal Island Elementary School for Excellence in Building Maintenance

State Comptroller Peter Franchot will visit Deal Island Elementary School on Monday, December 12, 2016, at 1:00 PM to present the Silver Hammer Award. The Comptroller established a special recognition, the "Silver Hammer Award”, for schools that have demonstrated a commitment to fiscal responsibility through superior school maintenance. Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore Presents Grants to Washington Academy and High School and Greenwood Elementary School

Greenwood Elementary School received a grant in the amount of $4,804.00. This grant was made in response to the school’s request for funding to purchase 30 Lego WeDo Kits in order to participate in NASA’s Robotics leagues.

Washington Academy and High School received a grant for $2,500.00. This grant will be used to fund a peer mentoring program which will provide tutoring in Math, ELA, PSAT and SAT preparation.
