Somerset County Public Schools Recognized at Annual United Way Meeting-Receives Spirit of the Shore Award

Somerset County Public Schools received the Spirit of the Shore Award for teamwork in raising a record-breaking $53, 813. This was on the heels of the school system winning the Flame of Excellence last year. SCPS placed sixth among the top fifty organizations in monies raised. United Way’s annual publication Making a Difference Live United Annual Report stated, “The following companies/groups earned a place on our elite “Top 50” list for raising the most dollars through workplace campaigns, sponsorships, grants and special events.” Somerset County Public Schools success was a result of significant individual and family donations, strong coordinators and committees in each school and offices, creative fundraisers, strong principals, an effective central planning committee student involvement, family involvement and community involvement. Enthusiastic and committed leadership among the Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent and Director of Schools continues to make a difference.

SCPS placed 1st with companies with 250-499 employees with employee pledges per capita of 76% and 2nd in per capita employee pledges of $115. The school system receives ongoing assistance from the staff at United Way including its Donor Coordinator.
