Jones began working as a school counselor at Washington Academy and High School in 2010. Prior to that she worked in the Child and Family Developmental Center at UMES for eight years serving as a classroom assistant initially and then obtaining a position as a specialist/lead classroom teacher.
When asked about the working world of school counseling and student services she said, “It allows me to advocate for students and families and to work with individuals and groups of various backgrounds in an effort to meet the needs of the students and families in our community.”
As a Coordinator of Students Services she has a number of goals including working extensively with the Naviance college and career readiness program. She seeks to play a role in “bridging the gap that exists between families, school and community.” Working closely with her departmental colleagues to better help students is a major goal. For Ms. Jones building relationships is essential to the job and she indicated she was able to do this at Washington Academy and High School. She said, “I will never forget the lessons that I was taught during my time there.
