SCPS Names 2022 Elementary, Secondary & Somerset Teacher of the Year

WESTOVER, MD, April 8, 2022 – Somerset County Public Schools (SCPS) recently announced Mrs. Jennifer Carey, First Grade Teacher at Carter G. Woodson Elementary School, as the District’s 2022 Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Carey was selected as the Elementary Teacher of the Year finalist. Runner up, Ms. Vestina Davis, Social Studies teacher at Crisfield Academy & High School was named 2022 Secondary Teacher of the Year. Winners were announced at the 2022 Somerset Teacher of the Year Banquet hosted at Somerset County Technical High School on April 8, 2022. 
 
Carey began her career 15 years ago as a 4th/5th grade teacher in Accomack County. After obtaining her Master’s Degree in 2010, she taught Kindergarten for 4 years before coming to Somerset County. She currently teaches First Grade at Woodson Elementary School, and serves as co-chair for the Math SIT committee. Carey will go on to represent Somerset County Public Schools at the state level, in the Maryland Teacher of the Year Program.
