1/1/2022 Update from SCPS

Good afternoon, and Happy New Year from Somerset County Public Schools! We hope that our school community had a renewing Winter Break. As many of you are already aware, COVID-19 positivity rates have been steadily climbing across the state and in Somerset County for the last several weeks, with a significant number of new infections occurring over our Winter Break.

At this time, we have no plans to make changes to our in-person learning status. We will return on Monday, January 3rd in-person, maintaining our mask requirements for students, staff and visitors. We will continue to maintain our enhanced sanitization efforts, and social distancing protocols to minimize the risk of transmission in our school buildings.

We continue to work closely with the Somerset Health Department for contact tracing and the exclusion of sick or exposed individuals from our school buildings. While the CDC has issued new guidance shortening quarantine periods, this recommendation and any other new public health guidance is still under review with our state and local health department to determine any future changes to our quarantine protocols in Somerset.

After we return from Winter Break, we will continue to monitor our local infection rates and our staffing capacity for any changes to our in-person learning status. While shifting to virtual learning would be a last-resort, please understand that we cannot remain open if we do not have enough staff to safely operate our school buildings.

Again, we will reopen in-person on Monday, January 3rd. In the meantime, please take precautions to keep yourself and your family healthy. Stay home, and keep your students home if symptomatic or recently exposed to a positive individual, and contact the Somerset Health Department for information about testing and vaccination events near you. And as always, thank you for your support in these challenging times.
