SCPS Closure Extended Until 1/19/21

Westover, MD, January 4, 2021 – Somerset County Public Schools (SCPS) has extended its initial school closure for in-person learning until Tuesday, January 19, 2021 due to persisting rates of infection within the county. As of today, Somerset County’s 7-day positivity rate is 13.75% and case rate per 100,000 is 86.44. Both metrics remain above the state recommended benchmarks for safe in-person learning, making the previously revised reopening target of January 11th unattainable. SCPS continues to track local health metrics for determining a safe return to in-person learning. To view SCPS’ health metrics & assessment criteria tracking page, visit
