INVITATION TO BID - REVISED**

The NEW J.M. Tawes Technology & Career Center

2A CONTRACT PACKAGE ONLY


Sealed bids will be received by Somerset County Public Schools for the 2A Contract Package for the construction of J.M. Tawes Career & Technology Center on  ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 22, 2017 AT 3:00PM LOCAL TIME.  Bids shall be delivered to the Board of Education office in Somerset County no later than 3:00 PM. The sealed envelopes should be labeled “Sealed Bid Enclosed for Construction of J.M. Tawes Career & Technology Center Attention: Daniele Haley.” The sealed envelopes should also be labeled by Contract Package number/letter and description. Bidders submitting bids for multiple Contract Packages should submit a separate envelope for each Contract Package. Such bids so received shall be privately opened. Bidders mailing bids shall address them to The Board of Education of Somerset County, 7982A Tawes Campus Drive, Westover, Maryland 21871.

The project is the new construction of an approximately 104,000 square foot Career and Technology High School. The design consists of a two-story steel and masonry structure with an area of green roof, attached to a pre-engineered metal building. This project is required to achieve LEED Silver certification.

Oak Contracting, LLC is the Construction Manager-at-Risk (CMr) for the project and has assigned the work of the entire project through the following Contract Packages:

AT THE PRESENT TIME ONLY THE 2A CONTRACT PACKAGE IS AVAILABLE FOR BIDDING.  REMAINING PACKAGES WILL BE RELEASED FOR BIDDING AT A LATER DATE.


A pre-bid meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at 10:00 AM at Somerset County Board of Education 7982A Tawes Campus Drive, Westover, MD 21871. It is highly recommended that all interested bidders attend the pre-bid meeting. The Owner, Project Architect and Construction Manager will explain the scope of the project and answer questions about the bidding documents. Bidders are also encouraged to visit the construction site at this time. The site will be made available to all interested bidders through the bid period. Coordinate site visits with Danny Rosas, Assistant Project Manager, Oak Contracting, LLC at (C) 410 652-2958. The construction site is located at 7982 Tawes Campus Drive, Westover, MD 21871 adjacent to Somerset County Board of Education building. Unapproved site visits are strictly prohibited. The Project Architect is the firm Becker Morgan Group, Inc., 312 West Main Street, Suite 300, Salisbury, Maryland 21801.

All RFI’s for the project shall be forwarded in writing to Oak Contracting, via e-mail derosas@oakcontracting.com Attention: Danny Rosas. Please identify the project within the RFI. The last day for submission of RFI’s to Oak Contracting will be Monday, August 7, 2017.

Construction Projects

The Somerset County Board of Education Facilities Department is responsible for the planning, coordination, funding, and supervision of all construction projects.  We work closely with the Public School Construction Program for Construction and Renovation funding and with the local government for matching funding needed for projects. Projects often include Engineering, Architectural and Construction Management components that require additional funding.  Current and Past projects are listed below.

Crisfield High School Lighting Replacement

  • Project overview: Replacing light fixtures throughout classrooms and corridors with new energy efficient fixtures.
  • Project was part of the Maryland Public School Construction Program's Energy Efficiency Initiative.
  • Rommel Electric Company completed this project in September 2014.

 

Marion Sarah Peyton School Lighting Replacement

  • Project overview: Replacing light fixtures throughout classrooms and corridors with new energy efficient fixtures.
  • Project was part of the Maryland Public School Construction Program's Energy Efficiency Initiative.
  • Hunt Consulting, Inc. completed this project in September 2014.
 

Washington High School Bleacher Replacement

  • Project overview: Replacing home and away side bleachers with new ADA compliant bleachers.
  • Project was completed with surplus funding from the 2011 renovation of Washington High School.
  • Dant Clayton Corporation completed this project in August 2014.

 

Greenwood Elementary School HVAC Replacement

  • Project overview: Replacing the HVAC, the ceilings, the corridor lighting, and making minor architectural upgrades.
  • Project is part of the Maryland Public School Construction Program's FY15 Capital Improvement Plan.
  • The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company completed this project in August 2015.

 

Greenwood Elementary School Roof Replacement

  • Project overview: Replacing the entire roof.
  • Project is part of the Maryland Public School Construction Program's FY15 Capital Improvement Plan.
  • The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company completed this project in August 2015.

 

Princess Anne Elementary School Roof Replacement

  • Project overview: Replacing the entire roof.
  • Project is part of the Maryland Public School Construction Program's FY16 Capital Improvement Plan.
  • Ironshore Contracting Company completed this project in May 2016.
 

  Washington High School Stadium Upgrades

  • Project overview: The stadium fencing is being replaced and the new fencing will include 3 new entry gates.  A new sidewalk has been constructed to allow for ADA compliant handicap access from the front parking lot to both the home and visitor bleachers.  Finally, a small parking lot at the north end of the stadium is being constructed for dedicated ADA and referee parking.  A storm water management pond was added as a requirement from the Maryland Department of the Environment. 
  • All of these improvements are partially State-funded with leftover monies from the 2011 renovation of Washington High School.
  • Reynolds Excavating, Inc. completed this project in October 2016.
