Please use this schedule and the information provided to plan the classes you wish to take. You can fill out the back page and use it as a worksheet. IT IS NECESSARY to register by filling out the registration form on line. Follow the link to the Technology page from our home page. Then follow the link for Course Registration. Any problems see a tech team member in your building.
INTRODUCTION
The Technology department will be offering classes after school beginning in January.
We will offer how-to courses in our new county program Microsoft Office XP. We have staff members at various levels of proficiency in these courses. For this reason, we are offering, Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced classes in the Microsoft programs. Descriptions of what each will cover are given so that you can choose your proper placement.
We are also offering courses on integrating technology into your every day teaching.
Courses are open to all. Attendees will be reimbursed at the contracted hourly rate.
You may choose any combination of workshops. Anyone who attends a total of at least 15 hours will also be awarded an MSDE credit. You must tell us at registration or no later that March 21 if you are interested in this option.
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
101 Word - Beginning 1/28,2/4
2 2-hour sessions 4-6 WHS
This course is designed for beginners. The skills covered will include: creating, saving editing and printing a documents; formatting text, cutting and pasting and working with more than one document at a time.
102 Excel - Beginning 2/18,2/25
2 2-hour sessions 4-6 WHS
This course is designed for beginners. You will create a file, name individual sheets, format cells, create borders, enter simple formulas, manipulate data and sort data.
103 Power Point - Beginning 2/5
1 2-hour session 4-6 WHS
This course is for beginners. You will create, save, edit and print a simple slide show using a design template.
104 Front Page Beginning 2/3, 2/10

The participant will be introduced to basic web development, design and deployment concepts and issues. Participant will design/develop web pages.

For those who have some experience with word. The skills practiced will be Changing margins and tabs, Creating and working with tables, using word art, using templates and inserting a graphic.

For those who already know the basics of Excel. Skills covered will include Filling down formulas; Use built in formulas (AVG, COUNT, MEDIAN, MEAN, MIN, MAX). Create graphs, Adding subtotals and freezing and unfreezing panes.

For those who know the basic functions of Power Point. You will create a slide show that includes graphics, animation, transition and hyperlinks.

Skills learned in this course will include: Mail merge, document merge, create a newsletter, create a brochure, create linked pages.

Participants will increase their ability to manage sites that have more than one or two pages. They will develop more skills for creating effective and user friendly web sites.

go.grolier is an on-line subscription for research in which Somerset County participates. It contains various level encyclopedias, maps, and specialized information. It is a great place so start students in research. Students and teachers can also enroll and have home access for free.

A free on-line resource which has lessons and resources sorted by grade-level and state standards. Much of the leg work has been done. You will learn how to take a topic and search the various components for things that you can use.

A free on-line service which allows teachers to create classes and create quizzes that students can take on line. When the students submit their answers the quiz is immediately graded and they can see the results and also the correct answers for questions answered incorrectly.

405 Creating a Web Quest 3/6, 3/13,3/20

A web quest is a long-term project which has students assume a role, work collaboratively, solve a problem, with a major portion of the research being done on the web, and present a final project. It can be applied to most any subject matter. The course is designed to have you work on the planning and design of a webquest that you would use with your students.
