SALARY: Commensurate with certification and experience based on the 2002-2003 Somerset County schedule for teachers.

SUMMARY OF DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION:

Under direction of the school principal, classroom teachers - plan and provide for appropriate learning experience for students; provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student; supervise students in a variety of school related settings; monitor and evaluate student outcomes; communicate and interact with students, parents, staff and community; implement instruction in a manner consistent with the Goals and Mission of Somerset County Public Schools including understanding, modeling and fostering independent thinking skills, creative problem solving and abstract reasoning; and develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.

QUALIFICATION:

A. Educational Requirements

bulletBachelor's degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.
bulletMeets Maryland state certification requirements in appropriate field of education.

            B. Training and Experience Requirements

bulletKnowledge of SCPS curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, SCPS policies, and effective instructional practices.
bulletUnderstanding of the teaching/learning process.
bulletAbility to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multi-cultural education.
bulletAbility to infuse technology into curriculum.
bulletAbility to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school based staff, students, parents and community.
bulletExcellent oral and written communication and human relation skills.

DUTIES:

bulletTeaches subject area according to curriculum guidelines based on Maryland Learner Outcomes, Core Learning Goals and Skills for Success.
bulletEstablishes learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs.
bulletPlans and implements lessons that include all essential components of a good lesson as defined by Somerset County Public Schools.
bulletIncorporates Dimensions of Learning and Maryland Learner Outcomes into daily instruction.
bulletUses a variety of teaching techniques and strategies.
bulletDiagnoses the learning needs of students on a regular basis for the purpose of prescribing appropriate learning objectives.
bulletUses technology as in integral part of instruction.
bulletCollaborates with other faculty in delivery of appropriate instructional approaches.
bulletDevelops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a consistent and fair manner.
bulletTakes all necessary precautions to protect students on a regular basis for the purpose of prescribing appropriate learning objectives.
bulletFacilitates in the resolution of problems that might arise with students and parents.
bulletParticipates in school management and shares responsibility for the total school program.
bulletPlans and supervises purposeful assignments for instruction assistants and volunteers.
bulletReports student progress objectively and consistently with students and parents.
bulletMaintains accurate and complete records as required by law and Somerset County Public Schools policy.
bulletFollows county procedures to requisition textbooks and instructional materials.
bulletEstablishes relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual.
bulletAttends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
bulletStrives to maintain and improve professional competence.
