Supervisor of instruction Middle/high schools

SUMMARY OF DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION:
Assumes responsibility for general instructional supervision, program evaluation, curriculum development, and staff development activities for middle schools and high schools. This is a 12-month position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Have a master's degree from an accredited institution.
- Administrator I Certificate required.
- At least three years of successful classroom teaching at the middle/high school level.
- Administrative experience preferred.
- Expertise in curriculum and instruction required.
- Knowledge of principles of leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with persons of diverse backgrounds.
- Skills in written and oral communication.
- Skills in information management.
DUTIES INSTRUCTIONAL:
- Observe, record and evaluate classroom instruction and conduct conferences with teachers following observations on the middle school and high school levels. Strong supervisory skills are essential in areas of curriculum and instruction.
- Participate with the principal in the final evaluation of teachers.
- Assist in the development of curricula and curriculum guides.
- Plans and conduct inservice activities to introduce, interpret, develop and support programs of instruction.
- Provide leadership in development, selection and use of instructional materials.
- Assist with public information relative to instruction.
- Coordinate and monitor the implementation of Middle School Accountability and Testing Program.
- Keeps abreast of changes and development in the profession by joining professional organizations, attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications.
- Plan and coordinate teacher attendance and participation at instructional meetings conducted by outside agencies.
- Participate in parent conferences, ARD meetings, retention conferences, grade level meetings and SIT team meetings.
- Ensure that various reports, forms, and documents such as report cards, grade books, lesson plan books, retention forms, registration forms, performance assessment tasks, book level test and curriculum guides are produced and delivered to each school.
- Coordinate and monitor the implementation of the High School Assessment.
- Represent the county at state level meetings and disseminate information related to instructional initiatives.
- Supervise/coordinate and monitor various programs as directed by the Superintendent.
- Perform other instructional tasks as directed by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
DUTIES - ADMINISTRATIVE
- Prepare budgets and manage funds related to the middle and high school instructional programs.
- Participate in selection and assignment of instructional personnel.
- Assist with teacher recruitment.
- Administer according to county policies the purchase of books, materials and equipment.
- Establish and lead standing and ad hoc committees to improve services.
- Participate on committees which address staff and/or system-wide issues.
- Participate in systematic communication with institutions of higher learning other school systems, MSDE, state and federal agencies, and community groups.
- Compile data and complete annual plans, evaluations, monthly and reports required by state and federal agencies.
- Compile and complete grant proposals for outside agency funding.
- Interpret and communicate orally and in writing county policies and directives to principals, teachers and other staff relative to responsibilities.
- Provide continuous assistance to principals in instructional and administrative issues.
- Perform other administrative tasks as directed by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
