PRINCIPAL

WHITTINGTON PRIMARY SCHOOL

SALARY: Salary is commensurate with certification and experience based on the 2002-2003 Administrative and Supervisory Scale.

SUMMARY OF DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATIONS:

This position provides leadership to the administrative and instructional functions of the school.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A. Educational Requirements:

Maryland State Board of Education Administrator II Certificate preferred.

 

B. Experience Requirements

Successful teaching experience for a minimum of five years. Previous experience as a school administrator at the appropriate level of assignment preferred. Knowledge of current curriculum practices and trends in education.

C. Duties - Instructional and administrative duties as assigned by the building principal.

  1. Uses data through analysis of application to improve student achievement and program success.
  2. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
  3. Initiates, designs and implements programs to meet specific needs of the school.
  4. Assists in the management and preparation of the school budget.
  5. Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school's administration.
  6. Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the school's staff and students.
  7. Maintains active relationships with students and parents.
  8. Schedules classes within established guidelines to meet student needs.
  9. Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development.
  10. Establishes guidelines for proper student conduct and maintain student discipline.
  11. Assumes responsibility for his/her own professional growth and development through membership and participation in the affairs of professional organizations; attendance at regional, state and national meetings; and enrollment in advanced courses.
  12. Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
  13. Supervises all professional, paraprofessional, administrative and support personnel attached to the school
  14. Participates in the selection of all school building personnel.
  15. Conducts staff meetings to keep members informed of such things as policy changes and new programs.
  16. Acts as liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation in school life.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
