OPERATIONS MANAGER FOR AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

May 29, 2002

Salary: $20 per hour

SUMMARY OF DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION:

The Operations Manager will oversee the daily operation of after school programs to ensue compliance with parameters established by funding sources and support staff in their delivery of co-curricular activities for students.

QUALIFICATION:

A. Educational Requirements

B.A. in education, human service, recreation or related field preferred and/or 2 yr degree and at least 3 yrs. work experience.

B. Experience

Three years work experience in school age programs or youth development, including one year administrative experience.

C. Knowledge & Requirements

  1. Knowledge of the principles and practices of child development.
  2. Knowledge of the educational system.
  3. Knowledge of the Somerset County community.
  4. Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and quality criteria for school age child care.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, administrators and community resource people.
  6. Strong interpersonal skills.
  7. Values cultural diversity and competency.
  8. Demonstrates good organization, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  9. Functions effectively as a team member.
  10. Ability to be accountable to multiple standards individuals.
  11. Knowledge of the principles and practices of mental health counseling and family support work with experience in care management with families.
  12. Knowledge of educational systems - organizational and operational structures. Previous knowledge or work with Student Support Teams a plus.
  13. Ability to assume a leadership role within an educational system.
  14. Ability to communicate effectively with and to gain the confidence and cooperation of students, parents, the school staff, and community resource people including medical personnel.
  15. Ability to do screening assessments and make referrals for assistance and/or treatment.

DUTIES:

  1. Recruit, select, supervise and evaluate after school staff within established parameters.
  2. Implement after school programs identified by funding sources.
  3. Complete and submit payroll according to schedule to appropriate department.
  4. Procure supplies and equipment.
  5. Submit monthly enrollment, activity and budget reports to funding agencies.
  6. Oversee program evaluation.
  7. Serve as liaison to other programs/initiatives in schools and community to coordinate and maximize resources.
  8. Collaborate with instructional staff and administrators to provide a seamless delivery of co-curricular activities.
  9. Attend local and statewide meetings as required by funding agencies.
  10. Complete 30 clock hours of continuing ed/training per year.
