FOOD SERVICE INSTRUCTOR

June 26, 2002

SUMMARY OF DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION:

This is a teaching position at the J.M. Tawes Technology and Career Center. An employee in this position comes under the direct supervision of the Principal of the Technology Center. An instructor in this position will be well versed in all aspects of the Food Service Industry. This person must have good classroom management skills and be able to express them self clearly in oral as well as written form.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Requirements - A high school diploma. A Standard Professional Certificate or completion of a state approved program leading to certification.

Training and Experience Requirement -Minimum of five years successful experience in the field with a high school diploma. Minimum of three years successful experience in the field with an associate degree in the trade or a bachelor's degree. Minimum of two years successful experience in the field with a bachelor's degree in a state approved vocational program.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  1. Thorough knowledge of culinary equipment and tools.
  2. Thorough knowledge of nutrition, food composition, food production methods, and sanitation.
  3. Thorough knowledge of kitchen management, time management, and scheduling.
  4. Working knowledge of profit making, marketing, professionalism within the field.
  5. Knowledge of employment trends, skills, and current employment market demand.
  6. People management skills.
  7. Team orientation.
  8. Flexibility within the work environment.
  9. The ability to cook.

DUTIES:

  1. Using current curriculum, plan a sequential course of study.
  2. Write lesson plans which incorporate Core Learning Goals and Objectives as well as Dimensions of Learning.
  3. Maintain accurate records of student performance using a variety of assessment and record keeping tools.
  4. Teach planned lessons which are informative, interactive and of high quality.
  5. Demonstrate a professional attitude towards students, and fellow staff members
  6. Model acceptable culinary and food service behaviors which are acceptable within the job community.
  7. Confer with students and parents to develop a long term plan for student life success.
  8. Confer with students and parents on matters of acceptable behaviors and expectations within the classroom, lab, and work environment.
  9. Utilize resources with efficiency.
  10. Participate in additional activities and duties as required by the Principal.
