ALTERNATIVE LEARNING CENTER BEHAVIOR SPECIALIST

June 26, 2002

SUMMARY OF DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION:

This is a teaching position at J.M. Tawes Technology and Career Center. An employee in this position must be able to design and deliver behavior intervention activities for at risk students at the middle and high school level. These will include short term intermediate behavior modification strategies.

QUALIFICATION:

Educational Requirements - Standard Professional Certification or Guidance Certification.

Training and Experience Requirement - Teacher must be certified in Education, Guidance/Special Education or Social Work.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  1. Ability to work well with teachers and administrators.
  2. Ability to deal with parents and guardians of students.
  3. Ability to work with students to help them control their anger and solve conflicts in a peaceful manner.
  4. The ability to design activities to help achieve and reinforce desired behaviors.
  5. The ability to resolve any conflicts that may occur in the classroom.
  6. The ability to assess both academic and behavioral progress.
  7. Maintain a safe and happy learning environment for all students.

DUTIES:

  1. Plan a course of study for students to follow.
  2. Generate lesson plans for the activities to be utilized each day.
  3. Keep office informed of attendance and progress of students in class.
  4. Keep a neat and clean work area and classroom.
  5. Teach students social skills and how to display proper behavior so they may return to the regular school population.
  6. Keep administration informed of any problems that may occur.
