After literally months in the planning, the Protective Services' most complicated, authentic, and rewarding Mock Trial comes to life.
Take a look at some scenes from the trial.
The trial was based on famed attorney Alan Dershowitz' novel, Just Revenge, and dealt with a felony murder case. In perhaps the ultimate moral dilemma, a respected Bible professor is charged with causing the psychological torture and death of a beloved grandfather. The motive: fifty years ago, the entire family of the professor - then an eighteen year old - was executed during the Holocaust by a Lithuanian militia captain, now the grandfather.

The Protective Services program extends its heartfelt appreciation to Professor Dershowitz for his kind permission to produce this version of his book.

At left, students listen to the prosecutor's (white shirt) opening statement. At right is the 'Judge', a former history teacher.

At right, the jury - students from Ms. Patsy Somers' AP History Class from Washington High School - listen to testimony.

We are indebted to Ms. Somers' and her class. Their cooperation, interest, and serious deliberation and well reasoned verdict made this presentation much more realistic and enjoyable than it would otherwise been.

The Protective Services program is focused on students who may have plans to enter the fields of Law Enforcement, Corrections, the Military, the legal system, or the security profession. These students are in the eleventh and twelfth grades and come from both Crisfield and Washington High Schools. (Mr. and Ms. Somers are not related, by the way).
