Welcome to the Somerset County Public School System webpage and
to the 2014 – 2015
school year! It is a great honor to be serving as your
Superintendent of Schools. I look forward to working with staff,
parents, school groups and community organizations as we strive
to make Somerset County Public Schools the top performing school
system in the state of Maryland.
It is no secret that Somerset County has a long-standing
reputation for quality instruction and high expectations for all
students. This is a direct reflection of the efforts of
dedicated staff and administration, supportive parents that
value education, students that strive for success and a
community that cares about its school system.
As a system we are committed to providing students with an
educational program that meets their individual needs while at
the same time challenging and stretching their limits
intellectually. We need to do that in an environment that is
safe, nurturing, full of high expectations and one that allows
for all types of growth. Ultimately, our job is to prepare all
students to be well rounded and prepared for college and career.
As we enter the new school year, we are excited about all the
new programs for our students. Our goal is to IMPACT our
students and our community. This year we will have new after
school programs beginning this fall, a new meals program that
provides every student a breakfast and lunch at no charge, all
day Pre-K classes at Woodson Elementary and Princess Anne
Elementary, a Judy Center in Princess Anne and we will conduct a
feasibility study to examine a new J.M. Tawes!
The key to a successful 2014-2015 school year is communication.
Please make sure you meet your child’s teacher, attend school
events and communicate with the school on a regular basis. We
all are striving for the very best for our students. We are
committed to having an IMPACT on our students and daily we
strive for “Success Nothing Less”.
