Are you interested in earning a Maryland High School Diploma?

Want to improve your job skills or improve your writing & math skills?

If you:

  • Want to earn a high school diploma

  • Want to build your confidence and self-esteem

  • Want to be better prepared for a career

The Somerset County Adult Learning Center offers:

  • Review of basic skills including writing and math

  • Preparation for the GED test and External Diploma Program

  • Opportunity to take a practice GED test

  • Classes for non-English speaking students (ESL)

The state of Maryland has two ways for people to obtain a Maryland High School Diploma. The first one is the General Education Development (GED) which is a series of five tests developed to enable people to obtain the equivalency of a high school diploma. The second way is the MD External diploma program. This program uses a series of take home projects and interviews that measure your academic knowledge and life skills. Students in both programs can work at their own pace and check their readiness by taking pretests.

To enroll in these programs it is suggested that you attend an orientation session from the dates listed below. GED classes start the first of each month after attending an information session. The EDP is offered by appointment but you may also attend one of the information sessions.
